Marwari Sangeet Sandhya & Marwari Wedding Rituals

Marwari Wedding

Marwadi weddings cannot be complete without many ancient customs and rituals. They are regal events with a lot of extravagant events and sumptuous feasts, with a customary appeal.

PRE WEDDING RITUALS

  • The engagement takes place at the groom’s parental house.
  • GanapathiSthapana (installing the idol of Lord Ganesha) takes place.
  • The male and female members have Mehfils and they have fun through song and dance.
  • The groom wears a white thread according to a custom called Janev.
  • In PithiDastoor the bride and groom are given a holy bath after applying turmeric paste.
  • The bride performs pooja and prays to Goddess Gauri called PallaDastoor.

MARWADI WEDDING RITUALS

  • Marwari’s love Sangeet Sandhya and their weddings cannot be complete without a theme based Sangeet Sandhya Night
  • The Rajput Baraat reaches the bride’s house, albeit without any dancing.
  • The bride’s face is covered by a long veil.

POST WEDDING RITUALS

  • The bride removes her veil in front of her husband.
  • The bride and groom leave for their new house.
  • A coconut is placed under the wheel of their car for good luck, while the groom gifts his wife a piece of jewelry.
  • According to the tradition of Pagelagni, the bride is introduced to the new family and he is showered with gifts.
