The Big Fat Indian Wedding

In a country like India, where every turn in the winding path of life is entwined with a sacred ritual to mark its importance, it is quite natural that thewedding is the most important event for the bride, groom and their families. Finding a suitable match is one of the most blessed things on this earth. It is the most anticipated moment in everyone’s life as they eagerly wait to meet their soul mate. Wedding is therefore special for every unmarried person and they want it to be the most memorable moment of their life. This is very much evident in the wedding preparations, which are done best according to one’s own capacity. Be it wedding dress, jewelry, make up, decoration or arrangement, everything should be just perfect, for this dream come true state.

Just there are many different things to be taken care of for the event to go on smoothly, there are many typical characters that we find commonly in a wedding, wherever it is happening.

The Perfectionist
They are too worried about their clothes getting crumpled or their hairstyle getting disturbed to notice what is going on in the wedding. Their motto is to find the best spot for themselves, and settle down there checking their mirror twice a minute, until food is served (Heaven forbid someone from assigning them any work!)

The ‘make-up queens’
Whether it is ‘make-up’ that they use to mask their face (and age!), or the made-up stories that they create….no one can beat them at it! Showing off is their hobby and they make sure every guest who attended the wedding has heard about their expensive chokers and designer sarees!

The absent-minded professors
They just don’t know what they are doing! Most often close relatives of the bride or the groom, they are entrusted with an important work that……eventually goes into the drain. In the last minute, they face the anger of the entire household!

The Next-in-line types
For such types, wedding are like free matrimonial sites! They advertise for their daughters or sons and keep fishing for the best match throughout. After all, what can be a better occasion to fix a wedding than another wedding itself?

The so-called ‘saviors’
They think they are the heroes of the day, wrestling with multi-tasking and acting over-helpful. They interfere in every work and try to steal the limelight. But no one remembers who invited him in the first place!

The foodies

True to their name, they come to the wedding enticed by the exquisite cuisine and delicacies. No wonder a wedding invitation makes their mouth water with anticipation, and they are always on the lookout for the menu.

The Jealous ‘Overreaction’ types
They pick out the minutest mistakes and hold it up for everyone to comment on. Even a single deviation from routine would give them a chance to cause chaos and say “This wouldn’t have happened if the groom was married to my daughter” or similar lines.

The Traditional gurus
They represent the cultural side of the ceremony, and focus on every single holy ritual that must be performed with utter devotion and sanctity. Being the most respected elders of the house, their words are considered with respect by everyone. (except for the youngsters who don’t appreciate their pesky intrusions).

These are just a few of the various colors in the joyful rainbow of marriages! And bringing all such varied characters might prove difficult for the host. But don’t worry!
